Print and audio-visual materials

The Resource Centre currently holds a wide range of print materials of interest to the classroom teacher (textbooks, games, audio-visual material, syllabi, teacher guidelines etc.). Students may borrow up to five resources at a time for periods of up to two weeks (unless otherwise stated). Resources consisting of more than one item such as language textbooks with tapes or CDs for example, although catalogued as separate items, are considered as one resource item.

Beware! Late returns incur a penalty!

Hardware for loan

The Centre provides a number different items of hardware for use within and outside of the university. Laptops, data projectors and digital cameras (still and video), digital voice recorders may be borrowed from Thursday afternoon until Tuesday mornings. A 50 euro deposit (refundable) is required for some of these items. The deposit will be retained in the case of late returns. Resource centre staff will advise you on the formal procedures for borrowing hardware.

Interactive Whiteboard

An interactive whiteboard (Smartboard) is situated in the Conference Room and it is available for individual and group use: call in and try out the whiteboard. Groups wishing to use the board should book in advance to ensure the room is free. Watch out for student led workshops during the year.

iMacs

A small suite of iMac computers is located in the Multi-media room. An introduction to the use of the iMacs for groups is available on request.

Peripherals

Webcams, microphone, headsets etc. please ask a member of staff if you require any additional hardware when using the computers.

Photocopier

Photocopy cards may be purchased from the vending machine in the Multi-media Room. Note these cards are not compatible with all photocopiers on campus.

Academic resources

A small number of academic materials (monographs, edited books and periodicals) are available for reference and for borrowing but students are advised of the comprehensive collection available to them in the Main Library.

Theses

Education Department M. Ed and Ph. D dating back to 1972 have been catalogued and are available for consultation and loan. BA theses in Local Studies and Community Studies as well as MAs in Adult and Community Education are available for one week loan. Contact a member of staff if you require specific informaion regarding theses from either department.

Additional Services

Printing: There are two printers in the Multi-media room; a colour A3 and A4 printer attached to the desktop PC to the left of the room and a networked A4 (black). A nominal charge for printing is in operation: please notify staff when printing.
Laminating: A4 and A3 laminating is available. Staff will set up laminatiing for you: again a nominal fee applies.
Scanning: students are free to use the scanner attached to the desktop PC in the Multi-media room.
